Have this Radeon 850xt card kicking around and might build a third box, what's the support like for it? Anyone running it?

I haven't tried this card but I have had success with the ATI linux catalyst drivers on other reasonably modern ATI cards (as early as the 8500DV and 9000 series). But in general working with the ATI cards in myth has been an exercise in self inflicted pain. There were many years where linux support was weak and as such most of the community has optimized for nvidia.

So if you have the time to spare, go ahead with this. Personally I would prefer to spend $70 for a card that just works.

I've used a radeon 800xt on a test box connected to a monitor and it was fine. I think the difficulty was with getting tv out working - i.e. svideo and the such. You'd probably be fine with a flat screen tv.

Here's hoping it works, as I just dropped a fair chunk on a long overdue upgrade to the desktop, and can't wait to move it's existing parts to the PVR!
