I have an r4v2 install that was upgraded via the debs to r4v4.1. It has been working fine with a pvr350. Due to an ordering snaffu (a whole other story...), I ended up with 4 additional pvr250 cards. When I add 1 pvr250, rerun mythtv-setup, etc, everything works fine (1 pvr350, 1 pvr250).

When I then add a second pvr250 (1 pvr350, 2 pvr250's), the launch of the xserver dies. It shows the console dialogs about reading the xserver log to debug, and asks to run xconfig, etc.

I have an nvidia 5200 video card and have been using the nvidia driver from knoppmyth with no problem. The cpu is an Athlon64 3000, 1 gig ram, MSI K8T Neo mainboard.

I tried moving all the tv cards into different pci slots, but whenever I have two pvr250 and one pvr350 card installed, I can't launch x.

(FYI, two more pvr250's will arrive tomorrow and I'll try it with 3 pvr250's to see what happens.)

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dan

Probably a conflict between the PVRs taking and IRQ or sharing with your video card. Check you BIOS, disable PnP and manually assign IRQs to the slots.

not sure what your problem is but man could I use some hardware love like you're getting. A a64 with a gig of ram and 5 tuner cards to play with, for a video machine, I can't imagine. My desktop gaming system is not nearly that powerful.

Some more info: The x error messages say there are Screens found, but none with a usable configuration.

Xsecrets: yea, it's nice, except KnoppMyth has been working so well, my family depends on it now. I was only allowed to buy the gear when I promised "she who must be obeyed" I'd build her a pvr. Now, I'm afraid to "play" too much 'cause if I totally break it, they'll skin me alive. ;)

I can't get more than two pvr cards working at once. (pvr350 and 250's, or all 250's). As soon as I have more than two pvr's installed, the xserver gives me the "no screens found" - "no screen with valid configuration" - "can't load nvidia kernel module"....

lspci -v tells me the nvidia card is using irg 16.

the pvr's are using 16, 17, and 18 (with 3 installed). 16 and 17 with two installed.

My bios only allows me to assign irq 3,4,5,7,9,10, or 11. And even when I set the bios to Non-PNP OS, and manually assign irq's to PCI slots via the bios, the cards still seem to grab irq 16 and up. Just for kicks, I also flashed in the latest bios, but that made no difference.

Still seems like hardware conflict... lspci -v to see what is using which IRQ.

here's output of lspci with one 350 (slot 2), two 250's (slot 3, 4), slot 1 and 5 empty.

Came across this one today... don't know if it applies to your problem / setup:

http://www.randrtechnologies.com/howto/ivtv/errors/Recompile.html

Didn't try it out (I only have 2 capture cards, 1 x PVR350 and 1 x PVR250) myself, just bookmarked it, in case I'll need it someday.
