Post subject:  VIA Chip set

A quick question. After total frustration with ivtv hanging up my pvr250 knoppmyth system, I'm going to scrap my AMD mobo with its VIA KT266 chipset. As far as I know, there is no fix (I even triied using a PCI UltraDMA IDE card, I still got a mythbackend hang).

From the mythlog:
":2004-08-30 04:02:49 Couldn't read data from the capture card in 15 seconds. Game over, man."

I'm buying a little Intel celeron box (2.4Ghz). It has a VIA VT8235 chipset.

My question is: Do all VIA chipsets have a problem with the DMA load of ivtv/mythtv, or is it just the VIA chipsets for AMD CPUs?

not sure about your question, but I've got one of my own.

why get all new mb/processor when you could go get an nforce based mb and keep everything else?

As far as I'm aware, the nforce 2 works fine. If you search the forum, you'll see this time and again. My personal recommendation is only on the forum.

OK, I ordered an nforce 2 MB for my athlon. It even has video out, so I'll have a video card to reuse. If I plan right, I can always have almost enough hardware left over to start yet another linux project--it drives my wife nuts :)

I thought I'd read about ivtv having problems with nforce due to ACPI or LAPIC incompatibility--tjough in retrospect, it looks like most of those were relatively old threads.

The issue was with APIC/LAPIC... This hasn't been an issue since R4V3. What is this wife thing I keep hearing about?
