Post subject:  setup suggestion.

Hi, I'm looking into building a mythtv system but i have some hardware questions. So here's the setup that i'm going with:

Backend:
400sc dell server p4 2.4ghz
1gig ECC ram
40gig hd, 160gig hd

Front End:
Xbox with GentooX MCE.

Since i have my xbox act as a front end i'm eliminating the nvidia/ati video card factor. Currently I have Libranet 2.8.1 running on my 400sc and kernel 2.6.6. So i know everything(*mostly*) is working in linux. My big question is that since i'm running the 400sc as my backend what pvr card should i buy:

I'm thinking about getting the 250MCE but it's supported yet? I'm looking at the 250MCE because i wouldn't need a remote and it's cheap. If 250MCE is not supported then should i get a 250 or 350? I know the hardware on 350 is better then 250 but is the 350 completely supported/stable?

Suggestion or hint about the pvr card or my whole setup would be greatly appreciated.

If it's a backend then you won't need tvout, so no need to waste the money for a pvr350 since all it gives you is hardware decoded tvout. As for the pvr250 I believe they are all supported, just not "out of the box" since the version of ivtv in knoppmyth is becoming dated, however the newer pvr250 non mce's require a newer ivtv as well, so you might as well go with the cheaper MCE edition.

Cool I'll go with the 250MCE then. Another quick question, I'm getting the dish network install in couple days. Can I hook the reciever straight to my backend?

<statement>I don't have a Dish receiver.</statement>
A/V out from receiver to in of 250 MCE, you'll also need an "ir blaster" or serial cable to control the receiver.
