Hi,
This is a NTSC model 190. The tuner is not detected as shown in dmesg

tuner: chip found at addr 0xc2 i2c-bus bt878 #0 [sw]
i2c-core.o: client [(tuner unset)] registered to adapter [bt878 #0 [sw]](pos. 0).

I changed the tuner setting in modules.conf to different NTSC tuners without getting any success.
Finally I installed Windows and checked the tuner version: it is an LG TAPC_H791F

I have reinstalled Linux and tried with tuner=39 but it did not work out.

I have posted this information to the BTTV mailing list but got no answer so far :(

well tuner39 is generally for the pvr cards. have you checked the cardlist and tried to match up the tuner that windows said it was?

Well, as my TUNER is an NTSC TAPC I have tried the following tuners without getting any success:
TUNER=27 (TUNER_LG_NTSC_FM)
TUNER=39 (LG_NTSC_NEW_TAPC)

Unfortunately I could not find details of what models are included in NEW_TAPC

I didn't try this one yet but chances it works may be very thin.
TUNER=47 (TUNER_LG_NTSC_TAPE )

Does anyone know what is the process involved in having a new tuner supported by bttv ?

No. The second part of Xsecret's post is very important. Instead of trying to rewrite the code first, you should see it this device is supported and what tuner option you need to pass to it... Moving from Tier 3 to hardware.

How can I see if the devices is supported ? I thought that looking at tuner.h would give me an answer but it does not include detailed model numbers of all the different TAPC tuners supported.
I checked the cardlist.tuner but it does not give any more information than the tuner.h.
If you mean that it is supported under LG_NTSC_NEW_TAPC but requires some options to work where do I find documentation about these options ?

Thanks for helping.

You can get started by looking here. You should make the change in /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv.

That was it :D

I followed your instructions:

I created the file /etc/modutils/bttv and set it to the right card and tuner

alias char-major-89 i2c-dev
options i2c-core i2c_debug=1
options i2c-algo-bit bit_test=1
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 bttv debug=2
options bttv card=10 pll=1 tuner=39

then I did update-modules
I started xawtv and it worked.
To get mythtv working I went to /usr/local/bin and ran mythtv-setup, said no, no and reconfigured everything.

Tonight I will try to check if the sound is working and try to get accelerated drivers for X as right now liveTV is 2 fps with a 1400 Mhz celeron and 256 mb of RAM.

Thank you very much to the people helping here.
