Post subject:  ATI 9600 Pro Nforce2, pvr250 athlon 2800

My Specs:

athlon 2800
pvr250
ati radeon 9600 pro

When I first restarted It booted into X just fine and I finished setting up everything. I had to change a setting in modules.autoload:

option tuner type=39

so that it would work with my pvr250. I restarted and now when It tries to start X I get libGLcore errors and VESA(0): vm86() syscall generated signal 4. I know this has something to do with my opengl settings/drivers. I've been searching these forums for about an hour now and couldn't find anything.

well I hope you didn't run the install-nvidia script, as you have an ati card. otherwise I don't know why you would have an opengl issue. what else did you change, or do? particularly anything that might affect video drivers or X? the tuner stuff should not affect that.

I didn't change anything. This is from a clean install. X worked on the first booth though.

Okay, apparently the radeon 9600 won't work with the default veso driver. I changed it to fbdev, but now when mythtv comes up my remote doesn't work nor can I even watch tv, I just get a black screen for 45 seconds then goes to mythtv home menu. Any suggestions?

well my suggestion before you purchased your equipment would have been to not get ATI, but since you have it a little bit of advice. fb does not have xv support and won't playback the fullscreen video properly at the default settings. You should probably look at the radeon open source dri drivers or their closed source drivers. Not sure if the version of the dri drivers included with knoppmyth supports the 9600 or not. the closed ones can be a pain to install. You can look around the fourms for some tips, but about all I can say is good luck.

I've had this box for some time and have always had trouble with the ati card. I have an nforce2 board with a geforce4 mx 440 onboard. If I take out my video card and use the onboard what steps will I have to take?

Got it working with my ati. I just need to re-compile ivtv to get my sound working.

I do have to say the quality is really bad. There is a lot of ghosting and noise in the picture. I hope this wasn't what was meant by xv not supporting my ati. And whats with the audio. I have a sound blaster live using the emu10k1. The audio is choppy. I've already re-compiled ivtv
