Seeing as how you provided as little information as possible about your hardware, I'll provide more than enough information to resolve this and any other (KnoppMyth) problem you may have: Please serch the forum.

Ok so maybe i didn't include quite the amount of information that you may need, but still i never expected such a short answer. I have indeed searched and i've tried recompiling ivtv with no avail. I"ve tried opening the mixer and recieve an error preventing it from opening. As for the system i'm trying to get working its a p-3 450mhz 256mb ram 200gb HD Pvr-350. System is working aside from audio out and later i plan on moving to video out but i've yet to do that. I have searched and i've not found much that i've been able to use. Again i ask for help.

ok you gave more info, but you are asking about audio and have yet to tell us what soundcard you are using.

Was the soundcard enable during the install? If not, as root:
Code:
/etc/init.d/alsa-autoconfig

If it was, perhaps ALSA (version included w/ KnoppMyth that is) doesn't support the "Ripcord".

try lspci

that should at least give you some clue as to what type of card it is then you can start to determine if there is linux support. for example mine has lost of stuff but for sound it has.

0000:00:0f.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 08)
0000:00:0f.1 Input device controller: Creative Labs SB Live! MIDI/Game Port (rev 08)

Well I tried to run the alsa-autoconfig. It did run said it was building card database then put me back out to a prompt. Upon running myth again no difference. For the lspic it returned 01:09.0 Multimedia audio control: Rockwell Internation Riptide PCI Audio Controller. What else can i do to check the status of the card. It continues to respond that it can not open device /dev/dsp and i've tried changing it to dsp1 dsp2 dsp3 with no differences.

ahhh now I get it it's one of those cheesy soundcard/modem combo's.

that's not going to be supported in the kernel by default, your best bet for a driver would be looking here.
