Post subject:  Nova-T PCI - New version

Hi, First post here.
Can any of you please help a newbie?
I purchased a nova-t and it's one of the ones with the Tompson tuner, and Conexant CX22702 / CX23882 chips. I believe this is known as a dvb-t 90002 model 929 (909 on the box!).
Is this correct?

After trawling the net and reading various guides I think it might be possible to get this card to work under Knoppmyth by either:

1 - Keeping my exisiting kernel and compiling the module.
The source for the new modules aren't included in linuxtv-dvb-1.1.1/linux/driver/media/dvb but is in dvb-kernel/linux/drivers/media/dvb/frontends - I belive I need cx22702.c ??

2 - Getting a 2.6 kernel and compiling the module again.

I've tried compiling the module under 2.4 without success and installing a new kernel which just gives me a blank screen at boot.

Can anyone help me move forward here please as I'm going round in circles?

Many thank
N.

Thanks for your reply.

Do you mean this?...
http://pvrguide.no-ip.com/bbs-old/viewtopic/7365.html
and this?...
http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showth ... ight=linux

I followed these and didn't get anywhere.
I first tried compiling a 2.6.8 kernel which didn't work the installed a new 2.6.8 debian kernel but just got a blank screen when booting?

I've never done much compiling from source before so it's all pretty confusing.

I'm sure if I could get the 2.6 kernel working that I could compile the driver OK

I'm trying with knoppmyth BTW.

All the best
NTB

Nope ;) Neither I meant my email :
"
I've had one of the hardest-hacking days in a long time to get this
working, but if you get the CVS cut of the latest linuxtv code and the
cvs snapshot of video4linux from http://dl.bytesex.org/cvs-snapshots/
then it can be massaged to work, yay :) Didn't waste 60 quid, go me
;) (And the guy who figured it out, cheers mate!)
"

Getting the kernel compiled is not just what you need to do I'm afraid :(
you ned to download the tar.gz file I described above and patch the 2.6.8-1 kernel with this, then recomile that kernel, you'll also need to download the very latest dvb code from the linux tv folks and patch that into the kernel, welcome to Linux, isn't it a blast! :(

I'm using debian so its pretty much the same thing :) PM for an IM address.

OK
I've managed to install a new kernel - 2.6.8-1-686-smp
Is there anyway to check if DVB core is enabled?
I have the source code for the kernel, video4linux, linuxtv-dvb and cx88xx
You do still want a MSN addie?

Sorry for being a bit dumb!

Am I better compiling 2.6 from scratch?

Thanks for your hlp so far

I sent your msn an authorisation request ?
You need to run the scripts in video4linux and linuxtv-dvb to patch the kernel, then go into menuconfig and make sure that the modules you need (cx88 and cx2720whatever) are turned on...

With regards to checking the modules, yes, use lsmod :)

Oops! Was that last night? I thought it was just some random request. I've never really used chat clients before

I'll try again tonight.
Thanks again.

Hi javajunky,
Thanks for your help the other night. I'm still going round in circles here but I do seem to be making some progress.
I have a 2.6.8 kernel running but I'm not sure about compiling the modules outside the kernel tree. I've been able to compile a cx22702.o module but not cx88 / cx2388 What order should I try and copile everything in?

Thanks
N.
