Hello,

i recently switched over to KnoppMyth (was running Windows XP and Meedio/MyHttpc for several Months) and i want to stay with linux/myth as it is much better integrated and also seems to be running faster. So far i got everything running (like it was before), except one bugging thing: the infrared part :-(

The frontend is running on a Compaq Armada M700 laptop and on windows i used a 'homemade' usb receiver (the one from Igor ...), i tried for a while to get this thing to run on linux as well but it seems it's not supported right now, so i bought a new serial receiver (which follows the igor version as well), but i don't get it to run under linux as well. I first thought it may be the lower voltage widly used on laptops (and after measurement, i found out that it only has about 7V instead of 15V, but though the receiver works and receives the signal with 2.25V(no Key pressed) and 1.75(key pressed)). I then reinstalled windows to verify it works and i got the receiver to work on windows (with girder and winlirc) without a problem. So i'm somewhat lost (i couldn't find any further help on the web).

And yes, i installed lirc as described on the faq page, as well as i tested it on a fresh debian install and compiled the lirc stuff on my own, still without success.

What can i do, to get lirc to work ??? I just need a remote, else it won't make any sense and i have switch back :-(

Thanks for your help
Kevin

I have a M700 that I would like to use for a front end. That being said, was the issue resolved? I am also wondering if a driver for the analog NTSC video out is standard or does one need to download \ compile.

I have never had to compile a driver in a linux system, but I am very willing to learn. My fear is the ucertainty of non-standard hardware and getting drivers that will work.

If I install R5F1 onto the system is there a way to verify that a driver is \ is not installed for a particular piece of hardware?
