Post subject:  Artifacts due to heat?

I have been running KnoppMyth for a few weeks now. I am using a PVR-250, connected directly to the wall TV cable. Everything was fine, except for the occasional pop sound, most often when I change channels, but also in the middle of a recording sometimes. Video was okay.

But since yesterday, the video has becoming very jittery and I see pixellation and/or artifacts every 30 seconds or so. The pixellation is part of the recording. That is, when I see some artifact, and I rewind, I see the exact same thing again. It happens on every channel. Also, I have noticed a lot more of those loud pop sounds.

I am using ALSA for audio, Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe connected to a receiver via digital coax. TV-out using S-Video connected from FX5200 to the same receiver.

Now my question is, given that I haven't touched any settings or changed any hardware or anything like that, what could have suddenly caused this? Could it be heat? The box is inside a pretty cramped shelf of my TV stand, and it's pretty hot in there. mbmon tells me CPU is at 62C, and motherboard is 50C. It was fine for the last two weeks though, and I never saw these sorts of artifacts/pixellation in the video until yesterday.

Anyone else have artifacting suddenly appear?

Hi

Il already experienced some artifacts such like that. The way I've to prevent it is to issue those commands :

Code:
test_ioctl -p 2
test_ioctl -p 4

Assuming that you default input is the 4th.

good luck

What do those commands do? I don't understand. Why would running some commands help, when it was fine before, and suddenly it is not fine anymore? I didn't change anything...
