I just got a wintv 250 (one of the newer ones) and set up knoppmyth 4v5. It's a very nice package. However, I'm having some problems with channel changing. When I "watch tv" via myth, changing channels does not retune. In other words, every channel displays the content that channel 4 broadcasts.

Using xawtv, I can jump around to all the channels, but they display only black. Then, when I switch back to myth, it shows the content of the channel last tuned by xawtv. So it seems like myth is not talking to the tuner correctly. As well, it seems like xawtv cannot display the content correctly. `cat /dev/video0 > /tmp/test.mpeg` just shows the last channel tuned by xawtv. I don't see anything interesting in either /var/log/messages or /var/log/myth*.

ivtv anounces itself as version 0.1.9, I've set the tuner type to -1, 2, 39, and 47 (47 seems unsupported, haven't looked in the header file yet...) -1 and 2 don't work at all, they will cause myth to show a black screen and lock up. My first reaction is to upgrade ivtv, but it seems like all variations on this 250 card seem to work out-of-the-box for others.

I'd appreciate some advice on how to proceed.

TIA,
Neil

I just peeked at /usr/lib/ivtv/driver/tuner.h, and it only defines consts up to 37, so I'm not even sure if this is the source for the instance of ivtv that I'm running, since setting the type to 39 seems to work yet setting it to 47 causes ivtv to complain that "tuner type not set".

if its one of the newer tuners (like i have) you will need to upgrade to a newer version of ivtv. i have had good experiences with the newest .2rcX series, i havent heard anything bad yet. So give that a try.. ALso in the new drivers the autodetect works great.. i never declare my tuner type.

I'm pretty new to Debian, how do I upgrade ivtv? I can certainly get a tarball and build it manually, but apt-get seems like the way to go. However:

Code:
root@mythtv:~ # apt-get -s install ivtv
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package ivtv

Is the package not named 'ivtv', or am I missing something else? This is a stock "auto install" knoppmyth installation.

TIA

Perhaps a search of the forum.

Thank you. I appreciate the suggestion, however I did search this forum and google for "apt-get install ivtv" and I was unable to find any relevant results. I posted here because I'm sure that I'm just using an incorrect package name, or am making a similarly basic mistake.

You're welcome. Perhaps a search of the search of the forum.
