I have the rest of the sound system configured well, I get audio through my spdif in mythmusic and xine. But, when I tried to watch TV, no audio. I spent way too long trying to set my capture ports correctly on my sound card (mobo embedded) when I decided to test the line out from the tuner card. That's when I noticed it was putting out bupkis.

I thought the card was shot, so I threw it in the XP box and it play's just fine through the line out. I listened to it w/headphones and amp'ed computer speakers.

So, yes, I've searched high and low for someone with a similar problem -- found a few, but with no solutions. So, has anyone here had any similar problems? Is there a way to configure the tuner's output? Also, I've been testing this using tvtime mostly -- I get a very nice picture but no sound. For some reason xawtv just gives me a blue screen.

Thanks for all you guys do and for any help you can give me!

I've the R5A10 installed, with very little customizations. Here's the usual dumps of good info:

Line out of the card should go to line in or mic of your sound card. Which you should, it should be set to record. You can do this w/ by running alsamixer.

I think he was saying that the line out from his tv card had nothing on it. If this is the case, I would check to see if you have the correct tuner parameter set.

Greg's right, it's the line out of the tv card that has no sound. I think I have the correct tuner parameters set (bttv0: using tuner=2, it's a Phillips NTSC), but are there other ones I can play with?

I did notice on the v4lctl that audio mode was set to "lang1". I tried setting it to "stereo" and mono, but it didn't show up on subsequent v4ctl lists. I did:

v4lctl -c /dev/video0 setattr "audio mode" stereo
v4lctl list

Also, when I crank the volume of the computer speakers I have directly hooked up to the tv card, I get loud pops whenever I start tvtime or change channels. So I guess something is at least getting through.

And lastly, I saw this in a some dmesg output I found on the web:
Code:
tvaudio: found tda9840
bttv0: i2c attach [client=tda9840,ok]

My dmesg says it found the tda9840 (some audio processing chip?) but I don't get the i2c attach. Any idea if this is the problem, and if so, what I can do about it?

Thanks again for any help guys!!!

Well, I finally got this thing working -- mostly. The problem with the tuner, in case this helps anybody in future, is that I had to set the tuner parm:
Code:
audiomux=1

After that, I get audio and everything is right with the world... almost.

Now, when I do a dmesg, I get the following errors repeated constantly:

Code:
tda9840: I/O error (read)
msp34xx: giving up, reseting chip. Sound will go off, sorry folks :-|
msp3400: chip reset failed
msp34xx: I/O error #1 (write 0x12/0x0a)
msp34xx: I/O error #2 (write 0x12/0x0a)
msp34xx: I/O error #3 (write 0x12/0x0a)
msp34xx: giving up, reseting chip. Sound will go off, sorry folks :-|
msp3400: chip reset failed

Now it says that sound will go off, but I'm still getting it fine. I can't find any funcional problems with it, but it's polluting the dmesg and pretty annoying. Any guesses as to what's causing these errors?

Thanks,
-Dave
