We've been working hard to make the Linux/MythTV install as easy as possible. We'd also like to finding the right hardware just as easy. To this end, we've created the KnoppMyth Reference Platform.

Kudos for taking this step! This is definitely a useful addition to KnoppMyth. As you describe, it does not mean that you can't run KnoppMyth on a wide variety of hardware, it just ensures that you CAN get a platform that will work "out of the box." It really aids the appliance-nature of a PVR, which is what many of us are shooting for.

Congrats also to http://mythic.tv for having the foresight to jump on this bandwagon. I have heard only positive things about this online retailer.

Thanks! Yes, kudos to Mythic indeed. I tried to contact several retailers about this and got no response. The folks at Mythtic actually contacted me.

It makes us very happy to hear that :)

We've been working up to the release of Dragon for a couple of months now, and we're almost ready to hand the first unit over to the KRP team for their side of testing. Personally, I think I will go through withdrawal and/or postpartum depression when it leaves...

That would be two days ago. It's not in my price range, but I was wondering what the status of this was. I was also wonder what it contains.

Hello! Atamido asked what the status of Dragon was.

First of all, thank you for your interest and curiosity :)

Unfortunately we've had some delays, since some of the cutting-edge hardware we tried was not Linux compatible (though according to chipset it should have been. The most recent (hopefully last) stumbling block is digital audio. I'm trying to narrow down the exact cause of a regression in the nForce4 chipset support between a patched CVS version of ALSA (from R5A12) and later versions. It's slow work, and I seem to be the only one working with the ALSA developers on this, which is one reason the Dragon release date was pushed back. It's further complicated by the fact that the intel8x0 driver in R5A12 is not a CVS version - it appears to have been patched by hand. (I already asked cesman about it - he didn't do it.) Even once the regression is identified, there's no guarantee that it'll be trivial to un-regress it in the latest driver.

It's slow and fairly nontrivial work, but if we're successful it means an imminent release of Dragon, and it means all those nForce4 motherboard owners in the community will benefit from our debugging and the subsequent fix to the driver.

On the good side, I can tell you that we have written a lot of scripting to automate the configuration process. Once the digital audio problems are solved, we'll be working with cesman to integrate this scripting into the core KnoppMyth scripts. Ideally the installer will auto-detect a Dragon and configure it for you, but realistically we may wait a generation or two before fully automating this, requiring the user to answer a prompt for now about whether or not they want to run the Dragon post-install configuration scripting.

Oh great, now I've let on that I come from the future...

Human, I assume that upgrading to a dualcore Athlon-64 would be trivial in this board?

The hardware isn't finalized yet, since we have to solve the digital audio problem, finish our testing, and then send it to cesman for his approval. If any of those steps fail, we may select some different hardware. So if I answered your question and we later had to change motherboards because of a failed acceptance test, that answer might become invalid. I hope you understand.

So, will Dragon be available tomorrow, or has the date slipped again?

We'll be launching Dragon tomorrow afternoon! :) We're all very excited here, and I hope the community is, too.

Dragon has launched! I'm working on getting the configuration scripts and the installation guide ready for public consumption. When they're ready, those will be posted on our site.

Congrats on the launch! Setting up the Dragon was quick and easy! Your DVB_fixer.sh script is great, if only I had it when I first tried to setup HDTV. The Dragon truly performs and looks great doing so!

Post subject:  DirecTV compatibility

Does the Dragon work with a HD DirecTV receiver? If so which one(s)?

Is there a Dragon that works with SD DirecTV receivers?
