I have a very cheap tuner card from when I ran windows, and would like to try mythtv before I can justify buying a new card. My problem is, I'm not sure what kind of card it is. It was very cheap, and VERY generic. I was wondering how to go about finding out if there are some generic drivers out there, or how to pull the information I need to find a driver right out of the card itself.

Thanks

don't really know what to tell you most cards that are supported in linux are supported by the bttv driver. There is a cardlist, but that is just going to give you a list of card names which won't help since you don't know what the name of the card is. I would suggest you look at the card and see if it has any names on it or if you still have it in a windows box look at device manager and see what it calls it. or if it's in another box you could boot that box with one of the livecd distros like mepis or knoppix and look at the lspci info to see what it calls itself.

This link may help:http://home.t-online.de/home/gunther.mayer/bttv/bttv-gallery.html . If you cannot find out the make and model of the card, you may luck and bttv won't have problems with it. If you do install and have probems such as stability issues, then bttv doesn't know the exact card and tuner type.

I booted the machine with a MandrakeMove cd and the autodetect recognized it as a tuner card and saw fit to throw the bttv module its way. I have yet to get it working, and although the mandrake cd gave me a make and model, I get the feeling it might be a "best guess."

Nevertheless, progress is being made, and I thank you for the help.
