Dunno what Mini-ITX is, but I have an ASUS board that's a micro ATX formfactor. A7N8X-VM. Using this is my master backend server and it works great. What is Mini-ITX?

I would have to say no on that one. they just don't have enough processing power to decode the video. there are some people who say with the proper drivers they can get close to smooth video with mpeg4. Some of the newer miniITX boards have hardware mpeg2 decoders, but from what I can tell the drivers for them are still closed source and redhat only.

Just looking at the link http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=110601 I am inclined to believe that you would be better off spending the additional 50 or so dollars and getting the 1Ghz C3 processor, even if that would mean a fan in the case. I also like the cases available there.

I don't know if there is an easy way to do it, but this might be a good combination to use for a network booted front end box for an existing MythTV back end.

Add a compact Flash reader, and a 1gig compact flash card, and you could possibly transfer the KnoppMyth immage to the Flash card, and boot from flash to a front end as well.

For those not in the know, Mini-ITX is a form factor that is smaller than Micro-ATX.The board itself is slightly wider than the insert to a pc case to support connectors for the ATX back panel. This board comes with what appears to be a single PCI slot. At the same time one of the cases describes a dual PCI riser card as available.

actually even cooler than doing the flash card for the frontend is using minimyth. just put a decent amount of ram on it and it boots and loads minimyth over the network. No hard drive no flash card nothing.

the epias work well with myth, but i can't give you a 'go' for the 500. maybe the processor isn't powerfull enough.

as already suggested the nemiah (10000) running at 1ghz does a perfect job.
i am running on a me6000 which is probably 15$ above your V5000.

Cheers fellas!

I have gone for the EPIA 10000 - the vendor was happy to swap!

All my gear under the TV is silver, so trying to build a system that looks like that rather than a PC!
