Post subject:  ATI Rage Fury tv-out problem

Hey all...first off, nice project! Saves me the (albeit relatively small) hassle of setting up another debian box just for myth, and it helps out those who are not that linux-savvy :) Onto my question...the following is my hardware:

AMD Athlon 850/640MB Ram
Asus A7v (VIA KT133)
ATI Rage Fury 32MB vid card
Hauppauge WINTv PCI

So....the install goes fine, but when it reboots and starts up gdm and X, both the monitor and the tv I have it hooked up to both go blank. Of course, this is because of a problem with the resolutions set in X (presumably). I can control-alt-F# to change to another terminal and both displays come back to life, so that's ok...I looked around in the XFree config files, seems there are lotsa res. modes in there, and I would have no problems getting my monitor working...but I am *not* familiar with tv-out in linux so I am here to ask for some help...anyone using this card and know what I should change? I dont know where the TV-out controls for Xfree are and such.....so, any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Well I am only familiar with the nvidia tv out and ati is different, but I believe you should be looking a two things. First the refresh rates. TV's usually can't handle anything over hroz 30-50 vert 60. the second I think with ati there is a program called atitvout or something like that.

Also I believe there is at least one other thread about ati tv-out on the forums so you might want to search for that.

Thanks for the reply man, I finally got it to work, but not by adjusting the output freq's and stuff...that just plain didn't work. I ended up having to use xvfb (XFree virtual frame buffer)...now I have output to my monitor and tv at the same time :) Now I just have to get it to display videos of any kind....but I'm gonna post another question for that.

Thanks :)
