I have an old HP Pavillion (well, not that old). I think it's an 800 Mhz Celeron on a micro ATX board. I haven't a clue about the onboard video (no video cards installed).

But when I am configuring MythTV and choose the PVR-250 as my tuner card, it never populates the Input list with any options but Television.

And if I go woth that and try to watch TV, it goes to ablack screen and appears to hang (Esc does nothing).

Also the IR remote appears to do nothing (does not drive the MythTV UI.

I tried moving it to another slot to no effect. I've tried both R4 and R4v2....

I also tried a friends WinTV (cheaper model) card with similar results (of course there is no IR on that board however). SO, I sort of don't suspect the tuner but rather the HP.

Any thoughts?

I suspect you are right about the HP. Can you get into the BIOS?

also look through dmesg and /var/log/messages and see if you can tell what video device it is assigning it to, also see if you can catch the autodetect during the boot and see if it says it is recognizing an ivtv device.

pvr250 etc don't have television input those are for v4l cards the pvr250 should have several inputs one being tuner that's the one you want.

So perhaps it is the HP. I have never twiddled a PC BIOS, so I may regress the machine back into Windows service.

I have my eye on an ASUS micro ATX motherboard that others on this forum have had success with — so I think I'll switch hardware.

Thanks for the encouragement.
