I've got a D-Link DWL-G520 card. Documentation on Linux support is scattered and unclear. It appears to be supported (usually with some problems/tweaks that vary by person) by the madwifi project and Prism54. Not sure how that could be true, since I thought that madwifi didn't necessarily support the prism chipset. :?

Anyway, Knoppmyth doesn't support it (by default or with my poking around :( ). Anyone know what the heck do I need to do to get it to work? I'm relatively new to Linux, Myth is my excuse to learn more and get to use it. :) TIA...

if it is indeed a prism54 card then no knoppmyth won't support it by default, and it may be a arduous task for a newbie to get it to work. It will require compiling a kernel driver at the least, and possibly compiling a new kernel. The best place to look to see what it takes would be on the prism54 page.

Hi,

you could give linux-wlan-ng a try.

According to http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html.gz
your card is supported by this.

At least I managed to get my internal Shuttle USB WLAN to work with a 2.4.x kernel or R4v2.

- download it from here ftp://ftp.linux-wlan.org/pub/linux-wlan-ng/
- unpack it @ /usr/src/modules
- cd /usr/src/modules/linux-wlan-ng....
- while [ $U != "got it" ];do vi README;done
- make config; make all; make install
- adjust /etc/modutils/linux-wlan-ng
don't forget update-modules!
- adjust /etc/network/interfaces, /etc/wlan/wlan.conf
and /etc/wlan/wlancfg-*
- link /etc/init.d/wlan into the rc?.d dirs

I'll give it a shot but I'm pretty sure it's unsupported. I spent 3 hours Saturday night trying to figure out the secret formula... it seems that version A of that board is supported (the non turbo/+ version) as it still used the Atheros chipset.

The "B" version, which is what is being sold now (and I bought, thinking it was supported under Linux), uses the TI TNETW1130 (ACX111) chipset, which is not supported under Linux yet, as far as I can tell. If anyone knows otherwise PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!! (jms_temp@yahoo.com). The ACX100 project is working on support but I can't figure out where it's at or how I can help (testing, development, etc.) yet...

I'm either stuck with a card I can't use for x number of months, buying the NDIS wrapper driver (which supposedly doesn't work so well), writing my own driver (yeah, I'll finish that by 2006 or so), or some other plan TBD.
