Hello all,
I'm a newbie to KnoppMyth, I've only done a test install on a PC (as fighting with it on a Wega i480 display didn't seem the best way to test). All in all this looks fantastic! Certainly blows away Showshifter 3, IMHO. Thanks to all the contributers!
Based my first look it seems that a system with multiple hard drives (4 x 40 gig drives) will not work well with KnoppMyth? It seems to only / best way to install it would be to install it on one large disk?
Is this correct, or am I missing some of the advanced settings?
regards,
Mike

One large drive would certainly be the easiest option.
In *nix, you can mount drives into directories. Thus, you could have:
/myth/tv -> driveX
/myth/music -> driveY
and so on. But, considering that you likely will want the bulk of the storage available in the tv directory, I'm not sure how/if you could mount all of the drives to achieve that goal.
You may end-up having to use md (or the volume manager - not sure as I've never had to do this) to "merge" the drives into one large drive for best results. I'd guess that you'll have to leave one drive untouched for booting, but then you could merge the 3 remaining drives into a virtual 120GB disk that you could then mount as /myth for storage.

Thanks for the advise guys;
micsaund, I think i'll end up doing something like what you described. (multiple mounts) Your definately correct that a big drive for TV storage is what i'm after, given the lost cost of a 120 GB drive, it seems worth the upgrade.
to bad there isn't a way to have multiple directories; /tv1 /tv2 /tv3 kinda thing..
what language was mythtv written in?

CrapUSA has a 160GB WD drive for $60 after rebate starting today. That's pretty cheap.
I believe that MythTV is written in C/C++. I'm not sure if it can support multiple dirs like tv1, tv2, etc. as you suggest. It would seem a worthwhile addition for some people IMO, but with the price of large drives these days, maybe it's not worth it.

Yeah rebates suck and some are even borderline legal scams, but after perusing the Candadian site you mentioned, the prices are still much higher than playing the rebate game (120GB WD1200JB=$103.57US). To avoid the rebate game, it appears that Newegg is a better value and you don't have to dink with any currency conversion/etc. (Newegg WD1200JB=$91.50). Note that even for a 120GB drive (compared to the 160GB I mentioned from CrapUSA), you must pay 50% more than the 160GB for a non-rebate 120GB deal vs. the rebate.
So, if you want low prices, you must play the rebate game unfortunately. Yeah, I hate it also, but it's today's way. Just copy the hell out of everything you submit and follow the submission rules to the letter and you'll likely be OK.
