Post subject: | GeForce4 MX 440-8X TV-out quality + Dual TVout |
I'm about to add an additional graphics board to my myth box because the PVR350 doesent do DVD playback yet. I've been looking at the simplest possible with TV-out and a Nvidia chipset to keep things as simple as possible. (I'm hoping to get the PVR350 TVout to work later on) I got two questions: Does a "GeForce4 MX 440-8X" work OK? Will I get a black border around the screen? And if I do, what board should I get? I've been looking at a Sparkle SP7300M4-64 http://www.sparkle.com.tw/html/product/nvidia/sp7300m4_64.htm This board has no fan witch is nice. Would it be possible to view TV + TV recordings and general myth via the PVR350 TV out and only use the GeForce4 to view DVD and other tings that are not supported on the PVR350? Apart from this issue most other tings work very nicely now and soon I'll do a "largescale family deployment"! I got one of the cheapest 440 MX 8x boards out there: the aopen. Think I paid about 46 bucks for the 64 meg version from newegg.com. I do not see any black boarder when watching either TV, DiVX, or DVDs. I am very happy with this board. Can't comment on your other question since I only have a pvr-250. |

Post subject: | I got the board - It doesent work very well!! |
The GF4 MX 440 board seems really well appreciated so I got one. I added the board and made a clean install. I updated the drivers and got it working. The only problem I got is that the picture on the TV is really crap. It flickers heavily, from the very first part of the boot process, really before it starts to boot. So I was preparing myself to return the card to the shop when I tried it in windows. It was flickering like crazy all the way trough the boot process and also in windows. But when I installed the Windows driver it stopped to flicker. This behaviour feels rather strange. Is the windows driver uploading some sort of firmware to the card? Is it possible that the card is in a NTSC mode when the PC boots and that the driver changes this? Has anyone else seen this problem? Maybee I missed something? I hate buying more hardware/spending more money now. This project has gone well over budget already! haan |

Sorry, my fault! I went back and checked my XF86Config-4 and I previously missconfigured it. When I changed it to PAL-B properly it seems to work OK. |
