Hi folks, anyone here using a Mac? I ASSUME this will work for me on a Mac running OS X but hoping NOT to be a trailblazer ![]() OS X has Unix/Linux built in so I'm hopeful. Anyone? Thank you. |

well I have no idea about mythtv, but knoppmyth will not work. knoppmyth is a linux distrobution, which means it is an entire OS so it will not run IN OSX. And knoppmyth is an os for x86 where mac's have powerpc processors, so this is not the right place to look. |

Post subject: | mac and myth |
The issue isn't really weather myth will work rather it is more of an issue about drivers. Coming from a FreeBSD unix background my first thought with myth was to use FreeBSD instead of linux. The problem with this route was the driver support. For instance, ivtv drivers for the PVR-x50s is for linux, not BSD. Likewise you will encounter the same problems with using a Mac, since it is more akin to FreeBSD than linux. Both come from variations of the BSD kernel, not linux. While people can port over applications between BSD from linux, the issue is a lot more complicated with driver issues. If trailblazing is not your cup of tea, I'd not consider such a task, although you probably have a greater chance of success with a Mac since there probably are drivers out there. The main task of such a project is making those drivers work with Myth. |
