By chance I thanked him for resolving the issue before I even upgraded to 7.x and when my keyboard failed I remembered that there was something the forums about that.

pacman -Sy xf86-input-mouse


This re-installs the necessary modules for the keyboard and mouse.

I KNEW I had seen that, but could never find it. Thus the re-install. Thank for adding the information to this thread. I mark it Solved!
