I just had to fix it in LinHES settings. Sometimes sound card problems need to be fixed with a reboot.

I went through the LinHES Settings-->Audio Settings again including loading ALSA drivers but no files were generated. I tried creating a ~/.asoundrc as follows Code: $ cat .asoundrc pcm.!default { type hw card 0 device 1 } Does aplay -L have a iec958 device listed? I have seen some cards that don't work with an asoundrc of card 0 and device 1 but will work with something like Code: pcm.!default "plug:iec958"

I am not at the machine at the moment but I don't believe aplay -L mentions iec958, only STAC92xx. I will check when I get home. Is that the only line in asoundrc?

I've tried to read the ALSA web page about asoundrc but cannot see anything particularly relevant. Does anyone have any ideas? When I first started investigating, analogue sound was still available through the headphone jack but now even that has gone. On my system I don't have an ~/.asoundrc file but I do have an asound.conf file it's contents are simply Code: pcm.!default "plughw:1,9" brfransen wrote: Try this in your /etc/asound.conf: Code: pcm.!default "plughw:0,7" [quote=brfransen]Also make sure you don't have a ~/.asoundrc as I think that would take precedence over /etc/asound.conf. So I'm thinking that LinHES doesn't use the ~/.asoundrc anymore.

Thanks Britney, you nailed it.
Changing the ~/.asoundrc has solved the problem. And yes I confirm aplay -L did not list a IEC958 device only STAC92xx.

However if you have a ~/.asoundrc that file will take precedence and ALSA will use the settings in that and ignore /etc/asound.conf. nicom: Can you post your aplay -L output? Currently the audio code looks for iec958 in aplay -L and will then provide the option to create the /etc/asound.conf with the line I gave you. I am looking for something with your config we can trigger on to create that line.

Thanks Brittany so LinHES doesn't create asoundrc file. Where does MythTV save it's audio settings?

As you see I was wrong, it does mention iec958 further down. I didn't see that yesterday.

Since iec958 was in aplay -L it should have listed it in LinHES Settings --> Audio and then it would have created the /etc/asound.conf. Can you double check LinHES Settings --> Audio?

I just went through LinHES Settings --> Audio again including Finish and still no /etc/asound.conf generated.
Settings are: Sound Card Driver - ALSA Type - Digital device 1: STAC92xx Digital [STAC92xx Digital](hw:0,1)

You should select the iec958 device. What version LH are you running. The iec958 will only be listed on R8.2. Previous versions has quite a few issues that were fixed in R8.2.

I am only running 8.1 so the iec958 option is not listed.
I wasn't planning on upgrading just yet. I was reluctant to try the script upgrade given that some people were having trouble with it and the age of my system. I couldn't spare the time to troubleshoot if required.
Now that you have fixed my flash sound issue are there any other compelling reasons to upgrade?
