I'm seeing the interface for rip/transcode as being partially (at best) working. I can't seem to move off the 1st file on the dvd. I can't seem to rip a dvd with multiple vobs, only the 1st. This severely limits the ability to rip a dvd. Anyone else?

I have seen behaviour that sounds identical to what your describing. I've managed to rip a film from a dvd in .22, but a fitness dvd with multiple .vob refuses to rip. It seems to go through the whole process, but nothing is created.

Had to rip with mplayer. It's not a theme problem as far as I can tell.

Same here: I've been using mplayer, too.
