I figured out how to get the AVS GP-IR02BK http://www.anywareus.com/products/misc/gpir02bk.html remote working on LinHes 6.02. You need to update your lirc version to 0.8.6. To do that, follow the instructions on http://knoppmyth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=20749. Skip the section about changing the bit depth from 32 to 64. Instead, do these commands:

cp /home/youruser/lirc/lirc-0.8.6/remotes/mceusb/lircd.conf.mceusb /etc/lircd.conf
cp /home/youruser/lirc/lirc-0.8.6/remotes/mceusb/lircd.conf.mceusb /etc/lircd.conf
