Hi People,

This might seem like a dumb question, but I have searched and have not been able to find the answer, so I will ask it anyways.

In my /myth/video directory I have several movies in various formats .mpg .avi .dvix etc. When I setup a storage group to point to these movies. They are located on two different drives
/sdb/movies
/sdc/movies2

Storeage group is setup to point to /mnt/sdb/movies and /mnt/sdc/movies2 which I can see the contents of when I go into the directory structure.

I am unable to "play" the files. Does this work for everyone else and I have just done something wrong?

Or does it only support certain types of file formats?

Or should I map the drive using NFS and symlink to the directory like in previous versions. I have tried this and it works on the backend, but not on my remote frontend?

any point in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Thanks

This is a problem I had. You can't use an external player if you're using storage groups with mythvideo. You have to use the Internal player:

http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/MythVideo#Disadvantages

I wish I'd known about that before I set up the storage groups. The Internal player works ok, better than other players for some formats like mkv files, but one thing I've noticed is that the bookmarks will not be exactly where it left off with some videos.

That seems less than Ideal.

So if I define a storage group for my videos (so they show up in Mythweb) I will no longer be able to use anything but the internal player in Mythvideo?

Yes, that does seem to be the case. But the internal player is working fine for me.

Also, the storage groups make setup quicker. However, choice is always good.

Even though I use the internal player, I mount the drives manually. To get it to work on my FE, I simply mount them to the same spot and it works fine.
