I am trying to stream a recorded video to my laptop. When I click the asx link I can open it with Windows Media player or with VLC media player. It starts to play but stutters bad and then stops playing.

On the back-end the lighttpd process goes spikes some high memory usage. Is this because I have not encoded it for streaming?

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
4428 http 20 0 1117m 853m 120 D 1 84.6 0:35.14 lighttpd

This is a new install I just updated to the latest 6.03.00. The back-end is:
2.8 GHz P4
1GB DDR-400
80GB /
1TB /myth1/tv

Is this normal? Do I have to re-encode the video before trying to play a stream?
