I've been using VDPAU for some time and it's behaved itself until today when I played a rip I made of Sherlock Holmes.

I'm getting white pixelation at the bottom edge of the screen. It appears to be when a lot of black is being is displayed on screen and appears to sweep across the dark blocks of colour.

I'm playing a .mkv copy of a bluray I ripped @ 1080p. The file plays fine on my ubuntu box (this is the pc I ripped the movie on).

It's either a settings tweak that I need to make - I'm using VDPAU Normal. The latest driver is a bit wonky I ran pacman -Syu yesterday and installed a load of updates, or my graphics card is playing up but I haven't seen this on any other things (yet).

Any pointers? Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

tophee

Couldn't help noticing this: You ripped a bluray on Linux? Can you outline the process you followed to make this work?

TIA

Mike

Hi Mike,

I use makeMKV for this. Link:http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=224 Follow the instructions there. The instructions work perfectly on Ubuntu though I had a few issues when trying under fedora.

Once installed you'll need these two files: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1293367#post1293367, http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1320065#post1320065 and point makeMKV at them (think you'll need to unzip them can't remember).

I also have the restricted extras on this box, though I don't know if this is necessary for makeMKV to rip DVDs.

Also, this you'll need a drive capable of reading bluray and a big harddrive as files are BIG.

HTH.

Chris

- Back on topic... no one had any issues with VDPAU?
