I just setup my first firewire card ( a cheap SYBA firewire card from newegg) and connected it to a Verizon Fios STB (labeled QIP7100 although plugreport lists it as a 8100).

I have run the firewire utilities and everything checks out. I can change channels without problem using the 6200ch channel changer. This week I set out to make HD recordings from the box and although it (almost) never fails to make a recording, they are all full of glitches and jumps. I am using the mythtv internal channel changer for the firewire recordings.

In looking at my mythbackend log I find:
Code:

Eventually after about 3 bus resets the recording starts but with plenty of errors

The mpeg2video errors then continue throughout the recording. I have tried different channels and programs but all have the errors. I have also tried changing the firewire setting in myth setup. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I had some similar with my Motorola DCT-6200 box with Comcast. I eventually solved it by writing a custom channel tuning script that resets the box with "firewire_tester". I don't know if this will work for your situation -- is your tuner a Motorola DCT-6200?

No. As I wrote above it is a qip7100 but plugreport says its a 8100. I see that there is some improvement with FireWire in the new kernel. I am hoping V7 may solve the problem.
