I recently redid my FE/BE to use audio over HDMI per
http://knoppmyth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=21966&highlight=
and it has been working well for recordings/videos/music. I do not have any sound however from Huludesktop, Firefox, or mythnetvision.

Is there some setting somewhere to tell these internet audio streams what device to use?

My guess is you probably need to set your HDMI output as your default device in the .asoundrc file.

-> brfransen - That was the trick. I changed my asound.conf to

Code:
pcm.!default {
       type hw
       card 1
       device 8
}

and rebooted and all is well. Thanks

My philosophy is that every extra jumper, adapter, extender, ... or other type of connection is another place for problems to occur. Getting the right cables isn't expensive if you're smart enough to shop on-line. I think my last HDMI cable was a 10 foot 1.4 type A for $12 shipped from NewEgg.

You want a 1.4 A to C (mini) or maybe D. From the appropriate wikipedia entry "The type D connector is 2.8 mm × 6.4 mm, whereas the type C connector is 2.42 mm × 10.42 mm". Make sure you know which one it is before ordering.
