I occasionally get recordings that are basically blank and have very short file lengths.

I'm wondering if it is possible to tell which tuner made the recording after the fact, so I can see if there is a pattern going on here.

I have an HDHomeRun and a pchdtv HD3000 for tuners.

You didn't mention which version you are running.

But if you are at version 0.24 of mythtv, and using an HDhomerun (which you are) you need to configure the HDhomerun using the Device ID and NOT by IP address to avoid recording problems.

Ok, I'm an idiot! It took me an entire morning of debugging to narrow the problem down to it only happening on recordings made with the HD3000.

Then it took another 15 minutes to figure out that I never connected the antenna to the card when I switched everything to a new box, so of course, the signal was poor to non-existent.

The HD3000 was the last tuner to be defined so it was only rarely called upon to make recordings, thus making the problem quite intermittent.

tscholl: I had seen your other posts previously and took your advice to heart some time ago. Thanks.

Yeah, I believe the input used is in the detailed recording information. If not it's in the backend logs. Search for "Started recording:" in the backend logs, like this:
Code:
grep "Started recording:" /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log

Thanks for the info. It will come in handy in the future. I narrowed it down by making multiple recordings and checking in MythWeb to see which tuner was being used for which recording while the recordings were being made.

I was working under the assumption that it maybe only happened when all three tuners were in use and the last tuner was running out of cpu (which wasn't the case). So I was dropping all the tuners and re-adding them in different orders. Turned out the HD3000 even screwed up when it was first in the order, even with only one recording at a time. I was going to try it back in the old box when I saw the antenna input was only connected to a 12 inch wire that I used for testing when I put the box together.

Thanks again for lending a hand.
