OK, I had been using a (blank) password for root on my FEs without issue for some time. I know, bad idea, but it was just me and video stuff.

Well, I upgraded from 6.04 to 7.1 and now root wants a password. I never had one, so now I'm royally borked!

I've been looking for a way to change my root password and see some grub solutions, but is there an easier way? or at least a way that works? So far I can't seem to get to init 1 without being root!

So learn from my mistake... before upgrading to 7.1, please add a root password if you don't have one. Linux has added some security of late to help us.

When I need to get to root I usually use
Code:
sudo su
as mythtv user. from there you should be able to change the root password with
Code:
passwd
