Since upgrading to 7.1, about 1/2 (or more) of my HD PVR recordings have no sound. I've not been able to find a solution to this problem. The mythbackend.log doesn't seem to show anything different for the recordings with/without sound. Anyone have ideas where to look to solve this? Thanks. Steve |

were they all recorded on the same tuner? can you play the videos from another computer? Is the playback slow or stuttered? what are the specs of your PVR? |

Yes, all on one Hauppauge HD-PVR. It worked perfectly under R6.04 for 6 months and started doing this under R7.1. It is connected to a Pace 110 STB and I channel change over firewire using 6200ch. I had problems for a while after upgrading to R7.1 with a similar percentage of recordings not getting recorded. Then I found advice to add a delay at the end of the tuning script so I created a script to run 6200ch and added 'sleep 2' to the end of it. That fixed it so every recording now gets recorded but about 1/2 don't have any sound. Don't know if that is pertinent or not. I have tried longer sleep times in the script but it didn't help. I've played them back on several different myth backends and in VLC and no sound whatsoever. The HD-PVR is connected to the STB via component cables for video and digital optical for audio. Any ideas? Thanks. |

I don't own either of these products. Here's my best troubleshooting ideas. Try elimitating the Digital audio go analog for a while to see if the problem disappears. If it does then we know it's a problem with the digital audio. Is there any pattern to the videos? Does it only happen when: you have the TV on? are going from one channel to another? the STB hasn't been turned on for that recording (it was already on)? Do you have HDMI out of the STB hooked up to an amp or the TV that would cause the STB to send audio over HDMI instead of the optical out? Does it only happen with first run TV shows like CSI or Castle (my local channels do something to those shows and it screws up my audio) When you change channels normally with the TV does it take some time for the audio to come on? Are these shows in 5.1? |

Thanks so much for taking the time to list these ideas and to follow up. Sorry I've been slow to respond as I've been trying to figure out any consistencies. So far I've not found any clues. mattbatt wrote: I don't own either of these products. Here's my best troubleshooting ideas. I ran it that way for a while and it didn't make any difference.Quote: Is there any pattern to the videos? Not that I have been able to determine.Quote: Does it only happen when: Noyou have the TV on? Quote: are going from one channel to another? NoQuote: the STB hasn't been turned on for that recording (it was already on)? I leave the STB on all the time because I haven't figured out a way to turn it on automatically. The 6200ch channel changer doesn't seem to do that for my STB. If you know of a way to turn it off and on for recordings, I'd love to know how.Quote: Do you have HDMI out of the STB hooked up to an amp or the TV that would cause the STB to send audio over HDMI instead of the optical out? With this idea I thought you had it because I did have HDMI going to the TV so I could watch live TV without the Myth on occasion. So I removed the HDMI cable from the STB and power cycled it. But no help.Quote: Does it only happen with first run TV shows like CSI or Castle (my local channels do something to those shows and it screws up my audio) Nope. Happens on reruns all the time.Quote: When you change channels normally with the TV does it take some time for the audio to come on? Nope.Quote: Are these shows in 5.1? Nope. At least one that I record daily shows as 2ch Stereo in Myth and fails probably 75% of the time. Fortunately the rerun this show a lot. But 5.1 shows fail too so it's not just stereo ones.
Any other ideas/thoughts/tips? Really appreciate it. Thanks. Steve |
