I am trying to get my head around the changes. Could someone please confirm or reject the following statements: (a) With 7.2 if you want to send a keyboard stroke to an ir receiver then you must use ir-keytable; (b) If using a universal remote to an MCE or Streamzap receiver, it is not possible to send keyboard strokes other than via ir-keytable, i.e. you cannot use LIRC (c) Custom lirc files that worked under 6.04 no longer work under 7.2 |

In addition, I have taken a first crack at describing how remotes are now managed in LinHES (and Linux in general). It is still a first pass and I have yet to review but I think it is reasonably accurate. Christ, I have a question that you can probably help me with. Under R6.04 I was using an MCEUSB compatible IR receiver with a Harmony remote configured to look like a "streamzap" remote. (LINHES config for receiver=MCEUSB, remote=streamzap) It worked quite well. When I upgraded to R7.2 I did not see any events from LIRC when I ran this configuration. I then changed LINHES configuration to receiver=MCEUSB, remote=MCEUSB, updated by Harmony remote to mimic a Media Center remote and all worked well. I have everything working now, but I am very curious as to why I could not get the receiver=MCEUSB and remote=Streamzap configuration working. Do you have any insights into what might have caused my problem? |

Do you have any insights into what might have caused my problem? If we had the system in its failing situation we could apply the tools identified in the wiki entry to find out for sure but my guess is that previously you had lirc configured to received the Streamzap protocol. I believe Streamzap had their own receiver which I believe we have a driver for. However, an mceusb receiver that supports RC-5 can likely receive it too. In LinHES 7 the kernel will have instead found your MCEUSB device and linked in the mceusb driver likely defaulting to the RC-6 protocol or similar. You may have had to specifically configure the streamzap protocol (which I believe is a modified RC-5) or just RC-5 in the driver. It is also possible that the mceusb driver is sending the events up but they may be mapped differently than the default streamzap lircd.conf. Just my guess but an analysis using the above guide I created would tell us for sure. |

Christ, thanks for the response! I am going to fiddle with things using your guide once I get some spare time -- not because I need it anymore, but I am curious. But first, I want to figure out how to recompile Handbrake... |
