I just saw an article about this yesterday:
http://forums.comcast.com/t5/XfinityTV- ... -p/1441139

Starting today, cable companies can encrypt basic cable with 30 days notice to their customers. That means that if you're using cable directly into your TV for local channels in HD, or maybe the original HDHomeRun or similar digital tuner card, you may have some problems if your cable company decides to adopt this policy.

I don't want to start a political debate over this, but I just wanted to raise this point since I have not noticed any other posts about it. It should not affect people using an antenna for local channels, but if you are considering adding any kind of 3rd party digital tuners, you may want to consider the following:
1) Ensure that it can be used for OTA as well as cable.
2) Ensure that it has a CableCard slot.

I haven't heard anything from my cable company yet, but I assume it is just a matter of time (kind of like elimination of analog cable).

Thanks FCC. Just rendered my tuner useless.

It is a bummer, but at least there are a couple options for tuners with cablecards... I just had one delivered today and hope to get it setup tonight. That helps keep me from panicking. However... I don't think there is anything preventing my cable company from making all of their broadcasts COPY ONCE and really make things a pain. I think that would be the final straw for me, though.

fyi,

If your cable provider is TWC your HDPrime tuner will be useless with mythtv. I only works with WMC
