I use opendns.org at home as a means of filtering Internet access. I have been unable to access both linhes.org and forums.linhes.org for the past week. Once I disable this, everything works fine. Anyone else having trouble?

I also use opendns and only see the problem once in a while, but it often clears up within an hour or so.

Yep just had this problem tonight. I set my main DNS to 8.8.8.8 (google DNS it's easy to remember). A helpful website is http://www.isup.me you can just append the web address to the end like this http://www.isup.me/linhes.org

Here's what OpenDNS said:

Hello Paul,

It appears that the domain linhes.org has some nameserver configurations set that are problematic for recursive DNS services to resolve; these issues can only be addressed by the host and owner of the domain: http://www.intodns.com/linhes.org

If you encounter any further issues in reaching the domain then please contact its host or owner regarding the issue.

In addition, this fixed it for me, for now...

Thanks for submitting, Paul. I did not realize they offered that level of service for "free" customers.

Thank you for that. I use opendns too and the only way I saw this post was accessing it through my cell phone, have not been able to access for over a week.

I think the major problems, as reported by that site, have been fixed. Now to wait and see if it helps.

Ii is worth mentioning that the LinHES site went down for an hour or two Sunday night as it was being moved from one datacenter to another. So the problem reaching the site may not have been a simple DNS issue but something a little more fundamental...

The server is in its new home and seems happy and well adjusted to its new neighbors. Its IP address did not change -- we moved the IP block along with the server(s).

Joe

I just tried reaching the forums about 5 minutes ago and had the same issue. I switched my DNS to resolve my problem.

Still not working, I gave up waiting and switched to google DNS, for now at least.

If you want to get geeky (and since this is a Linux forum I'm guessing you do) check out Steve Gibson's DNS benchmark app. http://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm
It will run a test to see how quickly DNS hosts respond and the quality of their responses. When I did my check a year ago OpenDNS was near the top so I left it alone.

This is still a problem and I don't use OpenDNS. When I do a dig on my server (my networks DNS server) this is what I get:

Code:
[root@caine ~]# dig forum.linhes.org

; <<>> DiG 9.3.6-P1-RedHat-9.3.6-20.P1.el5_8.6 <<>> forum.linhes.org
;; global options:  printcmd
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

I leave it for a moment and then try again and most times it fails. Usually after three or four goes it works with:

Code:
[root@caine ~]# dig forum.linhes.org

; <<>> DiG 9.3.6-P1-RedHat-9.3.6-20.P1.el5_8.6 <<>> forum.linhes.org
;; global options:  printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 1947
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

;; QUESTION SECTION:

;; ANSWER SECTION:

;; WHEN: Mon Feb 25 15:39:36 2013
;; MSG SIZE  rcvd: 50

When I originally saw this problem I did the isitup test and it was working, so I logged a bug for my server software and they came back with a similar reply about the linhes.org DNS entry having issues.

Could you please have a look a little further into this issue.

Cheers
