I been using XBMC for quite a while and the 32bit version very stable. With the 64bit version I've been having trouble with XBMC Seg Faulting. To be specific when I go into the show listing it updates HD or SD that is when it crashes. This only happens on a few shows but it's a pain Because when I try to restart it it starts to load and I get to the splash screen (sometimes even the menu) then it segfaults and crashes again. This corrupts my profile in XBMC. It sometimes also happens when I scan for updates. To get working again without I have to delete

/home/mythtv/.xbmc.

and setup all the settings

Google found this link

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1111491

To isolate the problem I moving some of my shows to a temp directory. I wondering if it's having trouble with a thumbnails on a type of file.

The post suggests to try and recompile XBMC with "-mno-red-zone" but I can't really try this.....

Sure you can. I don't have the URL handy, but somewhere the LH dev teams publishes their PKGBUILDs and related files. You can simply modify the xbmc PKGBUILD to enable that if you wish.

Update

I made some progress understanding this 64-bit issue. I created a separate folder and went through each show to find the trouble. When I go the show that has the problem it crashes instantly and then I know the source of the problem. So methodically I went thru 2/3 of my storage group and removed all the episodes that have an issue. I found out it's a very small number. Moreover, if I removed the episodes then XBMC does not corrupt my profile :). So now I have the problem episodes and can see that they are all avi type. Moreover most of them are less than 400mb and older stuff. It's odd that on 7.4 box they work fine. The resolution of these files is also low.

Thanks for the idea, right now I'm only testing R8 with the test build

That's a good thought, so I tested

By renaming one file and then copy it into into Myth Video.

When I opened the video it worked fine..so it's something else
