I have moved to R8 and have a need to install a couple of things. I need gcc, make, etc (base-devel). but am having trouble with pacman -S base-devel (or gcc) - conflicting files. I have read several reports about this implying a requirement to move several binaries... Can someone shed some light on this? Is there a way around this?

What files are conflicting? I just tried base-devel on a clean install and didn't get any conflicts.

Basically here is what you can do.
Once you have the files in conflict see if they are owned by another pkg: pacman -Qo /path/to/conflict/file
If it isn't owned by another pkg you can force the install: pacman -S --force gcc. Forcing base-devel is not a good idea so just force each pkg as needed and then install the rest using base-devel.
If it is owned by another pkg please open a ticket so it can be resolved.

Thanks for the quick reply... I tried this on a fresh clean install from the new 8.0 iso. I updated the pacman keys and did a pacman -S gcc where it finished with conflicts for /bin, /sbin, and /usr/sbin. See https://www.archlinux.org/news/binaries ... ervention/ . There are many file conflicts when I follow the instructions...

Ahh. While LH is based on Arch is is NOT Arch. Those instructions don't apply to LH because we haven't move /bin and /sbin to /usr. I can't reproduce any file conflicts on a clean R8 install and then installing base-devel. I did not update the pacman keys.

OK... I reinstalled and did not update pacman keys. This time gcc and make installed fine. Somebody might want to change the instructions in the delivered pacman.conf. It states that before you can use pacman the keys must be updated...

Thanks Brian.
