I Just did a fresh install of 8.3 after a complete motherboard failure. I added my 2nd hard drive, I have everything up and working. I selected to enable nfs and samba shares on my workgroup and my windows pc can see it as a media device and I can stream tv shows from that.

I just cant seem to browse to any shares on the 8.3 machine. I turned on upnp on my router but still nothing.

Is there something I am missing ? Did something major change from 8.0 to now in samba ?

I just want to move my kids movies back to the video folder.

No major changes, I'd reinstall it.

Service Menu / LinHes Settings / File Sharing / File Sharing using SMB

If it checked uncheck it and select finish. Then go back through the menus again and reinstall it.

I had a similar problem awhile back. That fixed it.

Thanks for the advice, but nope. I unchecked it, rebooted. re checked it, rebooted and now no change.

Unless you meant reinstall the samba package in using pacman, if so, I am not familiar enough with Arch to do that.

Did you get the configuring screen when you selected Finish?

Also did you do a pacman -Syu after you install from 8.3 ISO install? If not you need to.

No, i don't get anything that pops up after selecting to enable samba and nfs.

I installed from an 8.3 Iso, do I need anything from the ISO after that ? I assume I need to run pacman -Syu as (su or su sudo) to update ? I got this error upon trying both.

edit: fixed that error with sudo rm /var/lib/pacman/db.lck and can now run the update.

I believe the lock would have blocked you from
Reinstalling samba in the LinHES menu as well.

mattbatt is correct that could have caused a problem trying to reinstall samba. You should have gotten a "Configuring LinHes" screen after you clicked on "Finish"

Then it again.

Fixed !

I removed the block, I ran the update, reapplied the settings in the linhes service menu and this morning all is working again with samba shares.

hope this helps some other newbie that runs into this.
