I've successfully installed R6 but on 1st boot - it launches the X11 screen I see the menu to do the initial config for one second - then it boots me out and I'm back to the yellow LINHES screen
Video card is Nvidia FX5200.
Any hints? Is it the x11 conf file likely?

Of note it successfully installs R5.5 and on 1st boot i get the X11 setup screens without problem.

fire up and xterm (or ssh) and check the logs. Should be able to find some clues there.

This usually helps me troubleshoot FE troubles like you describe. You may have to you root.

Code:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log |grep "(EE)"

# cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log |grep "(EE)"
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
(EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed
(EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed

OK, that didn't tell much huh...

you're going to have to look through the rest of the logs. start with the rest of the /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend.log You can post the logs here and someone will find the bugaboo if you can't.

Also might try to boot without the bootscreen. This will give you a verbose view as the system boots.

Can you please tell us how you were able to change the time zone through the command line?

Code:
man tzselect

That is assuming it's installed on LinHES. If not, try

Code:
man -k tz
