I am in the process of updating my system from a single box system to a backend/frontend unit (server) and a simple front end.

I have a spare PC to install the backend and test it while I keep the front end working. The FE is currently running R5F1.

I downloaded the latest stable release - R6.04.00.

During the install (full) I have the following problems:
* After network configuration the dialogue box states - "Host name already on network"
* The install would halt if static IP is chosen
* After the install the screen stops on GRUB.

I also tried LinHES R7.00.03 but had similar problems.

Hardware is intel P4 with a nvidia graphics card.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance
Jim

Change the hostname? In one of the boxes change it. If not the new then the old.

look in /tmp for the debug logs, they can tell you whats going on.

For the grub problem, are you saying install finishes and then on reboot grub shows up but doesn't boot?

I seems to me that it could be an issue with the network card.. You could try to disable it in bios and then boot the computer just as a test. I think when you boot the network detect will just time out and it will keep going...

I'm with mattbatt's first suggestion. Make sure that you're using a unique hostname. If you're using DHCP, you may also need to check/purge the existing leases.
