During the install it looks like Firefox is uninstalled and then reinstalled From the pacman.log Code: [2010-04-23 20:27] installed firefox (3.5.1-4) [2010-05-31 16:08] upgraded firefox (3.5.1-4 -> 3.5.1-4) [2011-11-23 23:43] removed firefox (3.5.1-4) [2011-11-27 14:19] Running 'pacman -U firefox' [2011-11-27 14:20] Running 'pacman -U firefox-3.5.1-4-i686' [2011-11-28 07:56] Running 'pacman -S firefox' [2011-11-28 08:52] Running 'pacman -U firefox' [2011-11-28 08:52] Running 'pacman -U firefox-3.5.1-4-i686' [2011-11-28 08:53] Running 'pacman -S firefox' However when you try to run the following commands Code: pacman -S firefox pacman -U firefox pacman -U firefox-3.5.1-4-i686' pacman -S firefox' you get the following errors Code: pacman -S firefox
error: target not found: firefox pacman -S firefox-3.5.1-4-i686 error: target not found: firefox-3.5.1-4-i686 pacman -U firefox error: 'firefox': cannot open package file pacman -U firefox-3.5.1-4-i686 error: 'firefox-3.5.1-4-i686': cannot open package file Can we get those packages added to the linhes.org repository? I assume they were overlooked or is there a newer version available? Bug Report submitted |

That version is woefully behind. I'm running the latest Firefox (8.0) and flash player (11.1.102.55) on 6.04 and decided a long time ago that it was worth the annoyance of keeping it up to date manually. I should probably create a PKGBUILD that downloads and installs the latest tar.gz bundles but that would require more free time than my robotic overlords generally leave me with. Since at least half of the programs that I watch on the TV with the LinHES box are streaming video these days, having a modern browser and flash player is a huge factor in the continuing usability of the system. |

tjc, I did hear from Britney, and found out the that LinHES will be moving to Chromium as the preferred browser. Apparently Flashplayer preforms better under Chromium than Firefox, thus the change. Chromium is installed by default in 7.1 You can edit Code: /usr/share/mythtv/themes/defaultmenu/is.xml Change Firefox to Chromium and set the action to: Code: <action>EXEC /usr/bin/chromium</action>
an you'll have a browser. |

The question of current versions is still relevant. If the available version of Chromium is as far out of date as Firefox it really doesn't help all that much. |

tjc, Good point. I'm not sure what the current version of Chromium is, but the version of Chromium installed with the LinHES upgrade is version 13.0.782.112 |
