Hello,

For some reason I cannot get my mythbox to complete an upgrade from 6.04 to 7.1.

Starting with fresh 'upgrade' of 6.04 to get back to a working system, the upgrade via the upgrade_linhes.sh doesn't finish.

I get the wget error, corrected by updating that specific file:
Code:
 sudo pacman -Sy wget

I need to rename several files to get it to get anywhere near completion:

Code:
/usr/bin/mencoder
/myth/system_bakups/restore/.media
/var/lib/pacman/db.lck

All get changed to have .old on the end. I think the db.lck is due to pacman throwing a hissy fit from forgetting to change the file names.

I've made the appropriate changes to my /etc/pacman.conf as instructed in the upgrade guide and followed it to the letter.

Once the upgrade completes, the system won't boot fully nd I only get to the splash screen. Pressing f2 gives me a report of socket not being able to connect. Unfortunately I didn't note down what that one was.

I would be happy with 6.04 but I want my Nova-HD-S2 card to work.

Can some one help me get this upgrade to complete? Any advice or suggestions accepted. Oh, and I tried to use a 7.01 disc to do a fresh install and that fails to boot after instillation.

Regards

Chris

7.2 was posted yesterday. Please try that iso for an upgrade or fresh install to see if it results in a working system.

If 7.2 fails it might be best to visit the IRC channel.

Thanks for your reply Jams.

I will try it and see. Over this past week it seems the server is down - and in fact the message board seems only to be back this weekend.

Any view on if I can try an upgrade until the main server is up and running again?

Are the upgrade instructions from 6.04 to 7.2 the same?

Kind regards

Chris

I was able to find a mirror for the R7.2 iso by searching for LinHES_r7.2.iso if this helps you any.

I've now downloaded the 7.2 iso and intend to try an upgrade this weekend.

Hopefully this will now successfully complete!

I also had problems with the online upgrade from 6.04 to 7.1. The box struggled for 3 days and would not complete. At the same time I was having trouble with mythbackup but I finally was able to run the backup correctly and then run the 7.2 upgrade from ISO. Be aware that the 7.2 upgrade formats SDA1 so backup FSTAB. The upgrade completed successfully and I was even able to iron out my mythbackup issue so it's good.

Thanks RacerX,
I'll make sure my fstab is off box somewhere prior upgrade.

I saw your post regarding your upgrade... I'm looking forward to it if the difference is 5.5 > 6.01 as that was huge.

Cheers

Congrats on getting the site back up and running. I know it was a pita. Thanks for doing it.

I upgraded to 7.2 from 6.04 just now. I had the same minor "/usr/bin/mencoder exists" issue but to complain about that is silly. Just rename the file guys.

I am mentioning that I lost one of my nic's tho. Which rots but probably means I need to install a driver or something. Just figured I'd mention that.

My streamzap remote also does not work since the upgrade. Not sure why as it worked earlier this evening pre-upgrade.

Thanks for the hard work,

Abs

Well, finally 7.2 is on my system. Hooray.

I upgraded via a 7.2 iso which appears to all be working, except my remote. Which was expected. I will look into fixing that later. I also have a dvb-s2 card to try out.

Hopefully I'll be able to get BBC-HD by the end of the day.

I was impressed that my /etc/fatab was recreated correctly for the 3 other hdd drives in my box, I just had to give ownership to myth so all my recordings appeared.

Thanks to the dev team on their hard work.

re: my 2nd nic disappearing >> SOLVED

udev was trying to name the onboard nic eth0 but the pci card took it already. Fixed by editting this file... (you probably could have deleted it too to fix the issue)

/etc/udev/rules.d/net.rules

changed the eth0 to eth1

Then changed /etc/net/ifaces/eth0 to /etc/net/ifaces/eth1 and vice versa. Then bounced.
