Hello everyone!
I got stuck again trying to upgrade to R8. I ran into difficulties and tried to solve them by removing all the receivers and transports in setup, rebooting and adding them again. Now I get an error_open on all of them and can't find a way to fix that.
Code:
cat dmesg.log | grep dvb
[    5.601313] dvb-usb: found a 'Hauppauge Nova-TD Stick (52009)' in warm state.
[    5.601385] dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the software demuxer.

[    6.369837] dvb-usb: Hauppauge Nova-TD Stick (52009) successfully initialized and connected.
[    6.370199] dvb-usb: found a 'Hauppauge Nova-T Stick' in warm state.
[    6.370282] dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the software demuxer.
[    6.783086] dvb-usb: Hauppauge Nova-T Stick successfully initialized and connected.
[    6.786033] dvb-usb: found a 'Hauppauge Nova-T 500 Dual DVB-T' in warm state.
[    6.786119] dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the software demuxer.
[    7.439250] dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the software demuxer.
[    7.980991] dvb-usb: Hauppauge Nova-T 500 Dual DVB-T successfully initialized and connected.
[    7.986296] usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_dib0700

Looks okay to me?
Searching the net turns up others with the same issue and the general advice seems to be that something is using the cards, but I can't find anything?
Ideas anyone?

Thanks,
/Chris

Hi, I thin I'm seeing the same / similar issues with my nova-HD-S2 cards. When I try to use them to scan for channels, it takes an age to get to the relevant page, it then fails almost immediately.

I've been looking back at my old notes - I had some difficulties with my Nova-HD-S2 cards in R7. Looking at the kernal log, I am seeing there is a problem with the firmware: it isn't there.
As you can see here: (this was taken from my kernal log which is found in /var/log/mythtv/(today's date)/your_machines_name_kernal.log)
2013-04-01T20:35:25.500689+01:00 lust kernel: [ 382.330113] cx24116_firmware_ondemand: Waiting for firmware upload (dvb-fe-cx$
2013-04-01T20:35:25.500706+01:00 lust kernel: [ 382.330475] cx24116_firmware_ondemand: Waiting for firmware upload(2)...
2013-04-01T20:35:25.500708+01:00 lust kernel: [ 382.330477] cx24116_firmware_ondemand: No firmware uploaded (timeout or file $
2013-04-01T20:35:25.500709+01:00 lust kernel: [ 382.330479] cx24116_cmd_execute(): Unable initialise the firmware

This is exactly the problem I had in R7. I had a poke around in the /lib/firmware folder and there seems to be a lack of firmware included... perhaps some of the devs can have a look and push an updated package?

thanks

No, it's not. Getting the T500 to work is a separate question. The issue in this thread affects all receivers.

Hej Chris,

Did you get this problem solved ?
I'm on vacation now, and I thought to try the installation again.

No, they are still busy just about all of the time, but by restarting repeatedly, I managed to get enough time slot to access and do what I needed.
I am NOT using over-the-air program guide on any channel (unless I've made a mistake...).

The only remaining issue I'm having, is slightly stuttering video. First, I thought that would be attributable to the fact that I am now using new, usb-2 based receivers, but it affects the Nova T500 and a Nova PCI I moved over from the old system as well. It's not a playback issue - the actual recordings are affected. Live TV is stuttering far worse - to the point of being useless. All this in standard definition - I'm not on track with HD yet.

I decided to move over to R8 despite these wrinkles, because the old P3 system (!) running R5.5 was getting db errors because of bad hard disk sectors. Scary! At least the old system was a tribute to the leanness of KnoppMyth and robustness of twelve year old IBM hardware (it wasn't their disk...)! After switching it off, I need to consider additional heating in the "server room" (aka "garage")...

Cheers,
/Chris

Thanks,

I got one of the tuner already installed so I have to continue until all of the three tuners have been found.
So good luck and patience is needed during installation
