The hard drive failed in my R7 MBE. I have a database backup that is less that a week old so thought I should be ok but the R8 upgrade guide says to use a system backup. I don't have one. I Installed R8 and restored the DB using Code: mysql -u mythtv -p mythconverg < mythconverg.sql Every thing seems to be working at this point but I'm wondering if there any other new features or settings that may be off by upgrading this way. I don't really want to re install R7 just to do a backup and restore in R8, but I also don't want to have problems down the road. Thanks.

I believe you simply restored your database which is independent of any R8 features. You should not be missing anything in other words. Someone correct me if I am mistaken. |

Since this was r7 to r8 restoring the database shouldn't have caused any harm. There IS linhes specific stuff (service menu values) in the database, but it doesn't reflect any feature sets that can't be enabled via the service menu. The VNC settings are the first thing that come to mind as new features, but there may be more. Just make sure when you are in the service menu, that the values are really what you want. Because this was an old restore some of the new values will be default instead of what was selected during install. |
