My system worked flawlessly in R7.4. I had a database crash so I installed R8.1.1, no upgrade. After install the system worked well except it has no sound output.

Alsa sees the onboard sound but the system seems to want to use OSS instead. I've googled and googled. Plenty of people have this issue but I'm finding no answers. Here's some output:

When I boot from Knoppix Live the system has perfect sound. I see the same modules being loaded too. Can someone point me in the right direction here? This is very frustrating.

Thanks, -C

Did you set the sound driver at Service Menu --> LinHES Settings --> Audio and then setup MythTV Audio at Service Menu --> MythTV Settings --> Setup --> Audio?

I tried swapping my nvidia 8400GS with another nvidia 8400GS model G98. (I don't understand the model numbers, so don't ask.)

The G98 model has hdmi sound and luckily just squeezed into the ATX case. I configured the sound over hdmi using the mythtv setup/audio menus and I have sound! Woo hoo!

Thanks for your suggestions.
