Post subject:  Localized keyboard [SOLVED!]

In the install program, it is possible to set both the language and geographical location, but the keyboard does not follow. It comes out to what I remember as standard US layout. It was the same issue in old KnoppMyth, but the fix described for it no longer works in 8.x (loadkeys se-latin1 => cannot open file se-latin1). How do you set the keyboard localization permanently these days?

Thanks, /Chris

It's the same process, but the keymaps might have changed names.

This command will list all the available keymaps for the console.
localectl list-keymaps

Hm. Indeed, the Swedish keyboard layout seems to have a new name, but issuing "loadkeys sv-latin1" has no effect.

I guess it is the second part of the process that is the important one, then:
Code:
Change /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
to
Option "XkbLayout" "se"

That particular config file is no longer there. Where should the new option go?

Thanks,
/Chris

XF86 is no longer used and it's been replaced by Xorg.

Look at the xorg configuration section mentioned here.

Thanks for that pointer!
I am still struggling with it. The keyboard layout variable does change, but the characters that come out when hitting keys are still the same... Really weird!

Just plugged in a more permanent, wired keyboard, to the system in the kitchen I was mucking with and whaddayaknow: It worked immediately!
Will try the same configuration with the other frontends and see if reboots, unplugging etc will make any difference.

Thanks, /Chris

Indeed. Reboots, reattaching etc had no effect, but plugging in a wired keyboard to the other two frontends had the same effect. It still worked going back to the wireless keyboards. Issue solved! :D

Thanks, /Chris
