So pointed my pacman.conf to the testing repos and did the upgrade.

Rebooted, ran xconfig.sh and same Xorg.1.log as shown above, ultimately, the "(EE) No devices detected" detected line, but their is one difference:

A new line before the (EE) No devices detected
Code:
intel: waited 2020 ms for i915.ko driver to load

Other than that no changes in operation that I can see (but then again, do I really know where to look :) )

Does that indicate anything that I did incorrectly, or that I can fix?

Thanks for all your hard work and the updates you have made to help me get this resolved!
Bruce.

i915 should be part of the kernel. Is it loading? Use lsmod to check.

When I do an:
Code:
lsmod |grep i915

it returns
Code:
i915                     1175552 0
video                      36864 1 i915
button                     16384 1 i915
intel_gtt                  20480 1 i915
i2c_algo_bit               16384 3 i915, cx88_vp3054_i2c, cx88xx
drm_kms_helper            110592 1 i915
drm                       299008 2 i915, drm_kms_helper

if you need to see a full lsmod output, let me know.

That looks as I would expect. Maybe it is down to the kernel but I think there are other distros that are still on the 4.4 series. If I get time this week I will build a newer kernel.

Thank you!

I may be able to test tomorrow or this weekend, as soon as I have results I will report back!

Thank you, brfransen, you are a rock star!

Changed to -testing and upgraded the system, did an xconfig.sh and rebooted.

Intel graphics worked immediately! I was also able to use the hdmi audio for the first time as the settings could now see the card and I could setup audio.

Dmesg was complaining that /etc/systemd/coredump.conf.d/coredump.conf was executable I did a chmod 444 and that stopped that.

I still have the NFS issue, but I will open a separate issue on that one to see if you have any guidance on that.

If/when you spin an ISO with the new kernel, I will be happy to test a new install and an upgrade to let you know if there are any issues with intel graphics, or does the install progress normally. I have that spare disk I have been using for testing.

Thanks again for your support on this as well as all of the work you do to constantly improve LinHES, we are not vocal enough in praising your efforts!

Thanks for the kind words!

Intel graphics have been difficult over the years. Partly because there are so many different variations. And I only have a very old Intel box with a GMA 4500 that has worked with LinHES for years.

So did the boot splash (LinHES logo in blue) work? Did you change the xorg.conf AccelMethod to sna? My understanding is newer chipsets are faster with sna but sometimes have some issues. That is why we default to uxa.

I just pushed a fix for the coredump permissions.

Thanks,
Britney

I didn't change xorg.conf, but will give it a shot and see what I see.

Honestly didn't notice the boot screen, I was just so excited to see that the font didn't change at the point where the VESA driver would have loaded during system boot! As far as I recall it was a normal boot, but I will reboot the live system to see what I see and will report back.

So rebooted with splash screen and it does show up and the dots change from blue to white until the larger LinHES backend connection screen shows up.

On the shutdown side, the screen goes blank till the SIGKILL message is shown then the splash screen shows until shutdown/reboot.

I've changed the xorg.conf AccelMethod to sna, so we shall see if that changes anything.

Anything else you would like me to check, let me know.
