I have done a clean install to R6. I cannot get sound to work on videos.

It works for music and TV. Just not ripped movies. Haven't tried DVD player, but would assume the same.

I have loaded the oss driver and it shows digital for my soundcard. If I load the alsa drivers I see nothing to use.

On my R5.5 I was using ALSA /dev/adsp for all my sound. Also I use Xine for videos rather than Mplayer. If I remember right, Mplayer didn't always find the right audio track for video files so I ended up switching to Xine as the default video player.

So, two questions: How can I set Xine as default to see if sound is working for it. And what may be a solution to getting sound to work on Mplayer?

Thanks :D

My Bad...looks as though Xine is the default video player...

I looked in xine audio setup and found nothing that made sound work for it.

Any ideas?

IIRC you have to set the speaker arrangement (not sure of exact label) in Xine to "pasthrough" for digital audio. Also make sure the 5.1 device is set correctly.

EDIT: Also be sure to unmute all your IEC958 interfaces in alsamixer. Some other possible configuration options here http://knoppmyth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.p ... ight=spdif

I have set passthrough in the xine setup.

I cannot get alsa mixer to open. Typing alsamixer from the terminal brings up a window for a split second and then disappears. Kinda weird...

Would this be due to the fact that I am using OSS? I can open ossxmix and have checked to make sure nothing is muted. I did notice that the video volume setting went to zero even after closing it at 100% volume. I don't see any options to save settings...

Ideas?

I have to use OSS on my system, alsa will not work at all. Sounds like you have the same issue. :(
If you use the Service Menu option for the LinHES setup, you can set the seytem to use OSS or alsa and if you don't hear the voice say "front center" then it is not working.
