Hi,

Have been looking for a cheap small foot print frontend for my many rooms of my house and came across this post.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/2898

I was reading about how someone has hacked a Apple Tv and put in a broadcom mini pcie card that can decode 1080i supposedly. If this is true i can pick up a fairly cheap Apple Tv mod it and have these around the house for a lot cheaper then buying or building a ion atom system

Has anyone had a play with these?

Many here have been working on this, don't know current status but maybe davilla will chime in.

Dont mean to keep posting but this must be exciting to people with older tv's ie those that dont have dvi or hdmi. One of my tv's that im trying to connect is an old crt and now i get a small footprint, low power (watts wise) that supports comonent out and analogue sound and the bonus are there very affordable.

Yep, that's me. I'm everywhere :)

CyrstalHD is working pretty well under atv(linux) and XBMC. I hear rumbling of someone working to add it to mythtv.

h.264 and vc1 decoding works very well. It will knock you socks off to play a raw decrypted m2ts bluray at 1080p decode/display under the AppleTV hardware with the Broadcom CrystalHD in place of the internal wifi card.

mpeg2 (720p/1080i) is twitchy, not because of CrystalHD decode but rather the internal player in XBMC. It's on the list to fix.

Thanks for that. Youve definantly cuased a bit of a stir on some of the forum sites Ive vistited. And it seems to have cuased a run on those cards on ebay.

Ive got an itchy trigger finger....am dead keen. But apart form America am having trouble finding someone in Australia who sells them.

Anyone in Australia pickup one of these up yet?
